Lindsay's First Blog

Hi! My name is Lindsay Ellis. I am a freshman at BG, and am studying to be an intervention specialist. I am 18 years old and I was born and raised in Canton, Ohio. I have one older sister, and I also have a dog and 2 cats. I did the swim team in high school, and hope to do club swimming at BG. That's all about me :)

  1. Chapter 6: I would prefer to teach in a classroom with more technology, than less technology. I think a classroom with more technology would be extremely beneficial to the students in the classroom as well as the teacher. Many people may not like the idea of using technology in the classroom, but it allows you to do so much more as a teacher. You can use a digital camera for filming your students’ projects, or presentations, you can also use scanners to put pictures that you have taken on your digital camera and make doubles of them. Another great use of technology for teachers would be using the electronic whiteboard. It allows you to save information that you have just written, right before you erase the board. Laptops are also extremely useful, when it comes to creating a power point presentation, or surfing the web for knowledge on a certain issue.

Chapter 11: Audio: The traditional audio I have chosen is audiocassettes. Cassettes are not only economical, but they are also easy to use for students that are very young. Playing back the audiotape will help students become more active in the classroom. Cassette players can be used with earphones as well which can help students with individual learning. The emerging audio I have chosen is, the MP3. I chose this because audio files are becoming too large for WAV files, and the MP3 has faster downloading times for these larger files. The MP3 also has a better quality sound to it, and it takes up much less space.
Visual: The traditional visual I chose is printed materials. Printed materials could be anything from worksheets, to books, to posters and charts required for group projects. It is important as a teacher to make the printed materials as useful for the students as possible, so they can perform at their best. Some printed materials don’t have the quality to help students, but if the quality is put into the printed materials they can be very helpful. The emerging visual I have chosen is digital projectors. Digital projectors reflect a picture onto a large screen, so the whole class is able to see what the teacher is describing. This helps students that learn better visually, by using a picture to teach a lesson, instead of just lecturing. This also helps students with classroom presentations, by allowing them to use digital projectors.
